It is my pleasure, on behalf of the conference organizers
and sponsors, to welcome you to the 3rd International Conference on Mechanical Engineering
and Mechanics, Beijing, China. As ¡°the capital of a thousand years¡±, Beijing is
not only the nation's political and cultural center, but also a center for international
contacts. As the home city of Olympics 2008, the spirit of ¡°green Olympics, scientific
Olympics and humanized Olympics¡± not only promotes the development of sports, but
also strengthens the friendly communications between Chinese and foreign people.
Anywhere in Beijing you will encounter smiling faces and a warm welcome, especially
from the children who love to say ¡°Hello!'¡°. During October 19-25, 2009, CMES (Chinese
Mechanical Engineering Society) will host the ICOMES (International Congress of
Mechanical Engineering Societies) in Beijing. The seven academic activities, including
the 3rd ICMEM and the ICOMES, will compose ¡°the 2009 CMES Annual Conference¡±.
The aim of this conference is to provide a forum
for international experts and researchers to present, review and exchange knowledge
and opinions about advances in mechanical engineering and mechanics. More than 800
abstracts were submitted to the conference. 551 draft papers were reviewed by the
Programming Committee and the invited experts. The proceedings comprise 368 papers
including 11 keynote addresses that will be delivered at the conference. The theme
of the 3rd ICMEM is Energy Conservation, Disaster Reduction and Environment, and
the topics of these papers cover essentially all areas in Mechanical Engineering
and Mechanics.
I am indebted to members of the Organizing Committee
and the Programming Committee for their valuable contributions in making this conference
a success. I would also like to thank the sponsors for their support, especially
the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and the Chinese Mechanical
Engineering Society (CMES). I am equally grateful to a large number of faculty members
and students of Nanjing University of Science and Technology who have contributed
tremendous time and effort in bringing the 3rd ICMEM to you.
I hope that this conference will be a worthwhile
experience for all participants. A sincere welcome to all of you, and I wish you
an enjoyable and fruitful experience in Beijing, China. |
